They say free will is a gift given to humankind by god. I personally cannot agree much. This might have been true for our predecessors, when life was simple and choices were few. In our times, there has been an exponential rise in the choices we have. Every corner of our lives is filled with choices and it is always difficult to choose between the best of them. Therefore, for better life choosing wisely has more importance than it ever has. Smallest things like choosing the best mode for transportation is vital to smooth functioning of our lives. When deciding to travel, we have to analyze in our minds the best possible route, the best transportation means to use, the shortest commute time etc. Therefore, this rigorous process takes place in our heads daily when we move from one point to another. Somehow, the importance of what we were taught in primary education comes into my mind: the difference between distance, and displacement. For those who forgot distance is the measured distance between two points and displacement is the shortest distance between two points. Hence, effective displacement using proper transportation meansmake our lives better and improves our economy. Talking of economy, after the economic crunch it is now more important that we choose best and take every step cautiously. I follow TED Talks on Facebook like religion. Ted Talks is a forum where people come and share ideas, which can help us make our lives easier and help us to make sense of this complex world we live in – makes our life less perplexing. Like a sigh of relief in a constant tensed life full of challenges. Idea is simply defined as a thought or conception that potentially or actually exists in the mind as a product of mental activity. Ideas form worldwide opinions based on which people make conscious decisions. Ideas form principles based on which plans are made, efficient schemes are formulated, and methods are devised that turn into things, machines, cars, and airplanes. It is the ideas that made rockets and railcars and bicycles. Because of them, today we can travel distances with ease and comfort. In addition, long and harsh journeys have become pleasant. Distances have become shorter. Now, if we have to categorize the ideas into big and small on the scale of their effects and importance there is not much difference. Big ideas help humanity to shape new civilizations, but small ideas help us to go through our daily lives. Without them the survival of the individual is impossible and hence the survival of the society. The consequences can be far reaching. Along these lines, the idea of a taxicab seems like a small idea. The whole idea of a taxi is that it is a type of vehicle for hire with a driver, used by a single passenger or small group of passengers, often for anon-shared ride. A taxicab conveys passengers between locations of their choice. In modes of public transport, the pick-up and drop-offlocations are determined by the service provider, not by the passenger.
